Reinventing
Emergency
aortic care
Smartery aims to revolutionize the treatment of ascending aorta dissection
with its unique endoprosthesis.
Clinical challenge

A minimally invasive solution
to overcome current limitations in the treatment of ascending aorta diseases

Each year, over 250,000 patients suffer from ascending aortic dissection. Despite surgery, mortality remains high (20%) – and one-third of patients are not operated due to contraindications or lack of access.

  • 60% mortality at 30 days without surgery
  • Open‑heart surgery remains the only option – invasive, complex, and time‑critical
  • 1% hourly mortality rate in emergencies
  • Limited access to cardiac surgery centers
OUR SOLUTION
Smartery breaks technological barriers to deliver its off-the-shelf endoprosthesis for ascending aorta dissection
1
A patented Design engineered to adapte to a wide range of anatomies:
Off-the-shelf
Immediate availability for emergency treatment
Allows endovascular treatment of ascending aorta dissection
2
A dedicated delivery system enabling femoral artery access:
Fully endovascular
No open surgery or general anesthesia required
Allows to treat patients contra-indicated to surgery
3
A branchless, single‑tube architecture enabling simpler, faster, safer implantation:
User-friendly implantation
Immediate availability for emergency treatment
Allows to treat patients locally without access to cardiac surgery
Who we are

Smartery was founded following a clear clinical observation

Despite major advances in cardiovascular medicine, ascending aorta emergencies still lack a minimally invasive solution. Smartery was founded by clinicians and engineers confronted with this gap in daily practice, with the ambition to design a dedicated alternative to current invasive procedures.

Our mission is to ensure that patients facing an ascending aorta emergency are no longer left without a viable treatment option. Our work is driven by scientific rigor, patient benefit, and the ambition to transform emergency aortic care.

Team

Benoit COSSET
CEO and founder
Benoit Cosset (MD, PhD) is a cardiovascular surgeon and the inventor of the device developed by Smartery. He holds a PhD on aortic dissection from the CREATIS laboratory in Lyon, where he worked on imaging and biomechanics of the aorta. He also completed the HEC Challenge+ program, combining clinical expertise, scientific research, and medtech entrepreneurship.
Alain LERCH
CTO – Quality & regulatory referent
Alain Lerch holds a PhD in material sciences and has extensive experience in implantable medical devices. He founded Kasios, a company specialized in neurosurgical implants, where he served as CTO. He previously worked as Project Manager for Class III medical devices at Johnson & Johnson and later led Medlinks, supporting medtech companies in quality and regulatory strategy.
Amélie BOURQUIN
Product development manager
Amélie Bourquin is a biomaterial engineer trained at UTC, with more than 15 years of experience in R&D for Class II and III medical devices. She spent eight years at CorWave as Senior Project Manager for cardiovascular implants, leading multidisciplinary development programs and contributing to the maturation of next‑generation cardiac technologies
